Dear Parents,
How can you stay involved in your teen’s education?
Thankfully, in this post today, I will be sharing some insights and I am confident you will find them very useful.
The truth is secondary school years can be difficult for a teen. Not only are teens faced with puberty, social pressures, self-esteem issues, and social media pressures but the academic requirements of school are much more strict and demanding.
But, here are ways you as a parent can help your teen to be successful in high school in today’s world.
Let’s get started.
How to stay involved in your teen’s education
If you find the post useful, kindly share it with your friends on social media and I will be super grateful.
So, let’s dive in
Stay involved and engaged in your teen’s education
Not getting involved in your teen studies and education in Secondary School is a serious mistake parents make and this can have negative consequences.
Teenagers do better in school when their parents are interested and engaged.
Not only should you find out from your teen how things are going in school but also know and meet your child’s subject teachers and attend parent-teacher association meetings to discuss how your teen is doing in class. You also need to know how your teen is doing socially and behaviorally as well.
Ensure you provide a distraction-free environment for your teen to study.
Make sure your teen is keeping up with his/her studies by creating a distraction-free environment.
Make time to check in on your teen from time to time in order to ensure that they are studying and not distracted by a WhatsApp chat, checking up on social media sites, surfing the internet, or simply staring off into space.
There are apps that can limit your teen’s access to social media sites and emails during specific times. You may want to block these social media sites until your child is done with their study time.
Help your teen be able to manage their time and impulses better. So that when he or she matures, they can better manage their time.
Get extra learning support for your teen
In subjects where your teen struggles, get extra learning support for him or her. This extra learning support could mean getting a private tutor for your child, registering your teen on an online learning platform, speaking with a subject teacher to provide additional learning support, etc.
Encourage Studying
Not all teens are studious and it can be hard to get your teens to study and read their school books.
But reading can provide your teen with a multitude of benefits and these include higher scores on tests and exams. Reading also boosts brainpower and confidence.
